REACH YOUR GOALS WITH NO BULL COACHING

The couch has never been less tempting

MY STORY

I discovered coaching while looking to change my own life stuck in a miserable, dead end job, feeling as if I couldn't leave.

Coaching was the key to changing my perspective and allowing me to feel better and take action from a place of peace and excitement rather than anxiety. I learned that the reason I was always so stressed and scared was because my brain was trying to function in a way that worked great... thousands of years ago. But now, in order to help my brain work in a way that is ideal for our world, I had to manage my thoughts to manage my feelings and actions.

When I realized how much coaching could change my life and the lives of everyone around me, I became thrice certified as an LTCI, Achology, and Transformation Services coach, each time learning more and different perspectives on how to help people.

Now I'm ready to help you. Best of all, with no bs. I don't tell you to draw into the energy of the universe or anything like that, but I also don't begrudge any of those beliefs that work for you. I'm a pragmatist- what works, works. I base my coaching on principles of logic and on the best available science of how our brains work and how to effect change in our lives.

What makes me the right coach for you?

You are the focus- no one is trying to impress you or push their agenda on you here. I ask questions, and the answers in you are the key to bringing out your motivation and your potential. I will always be on your side, but I won't back down from asking the tough questions that could be the key to your transformation. You will be understood, but never coddled, and I will always see the version of you who can achieve your goals, even when you don't.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS COACHING?

Coaching is the use of psychology, philosophy, and didactic methods to help clients achieve goals.

When you hire a coach, you are NOT hiring a cheerleader, although we are definitely going to celebrate your successes with you! A coach is much more than a sideline character- they're your Yoda, your Dumbledore, your Gandalf. Someone who has been down your road, knows the struggles you'll face, and knows how to prepare you to get through the challenges of your hero's journey. We're not all magical old men, certainly, but we are people who understand the human struggle, and how easy it is to drown in it. We also understand, through pain and perseverance, how to become resilient and succeed. We weren't ever perfect- in fact, if we were, we wouldn't know how to get you to your goals from where you are now. We wouldn't know how to overcome what you're feeling if we'd never felt it.

But we do. And that's why we became coaches- because we saw the opportunity to help you do the same.

I never intended to become a coach. In fact, I stumbled on coaching by accident on a podcast called Unf*ck Your Brain (highly recommended). I had no idea I was falling into something called "life coaching," but I loved what she had to say and had to know more. I fell fast down the rabbit hole, and I haven't looked back. After a while, I realized that I could help people the way Kara, the host, had helped me, and I decided to become a coach. That's why I'm here.

HOW IS COACHING DIFFERENT FROM THERAPY?

Therapy is where a licensed individual provides services meant to restore the client to functioning after a trauma or illness has affected them. The therapist uses techniques to help the client explore what happened in the past so they can move forward.

Coaches are concerned with your future and with helping you achieve your goals. While there are no licensing requirements for life coaches, most coaches are ethical and attempt to receive specialized training. For example, I am certified by LCTI, Achology, and Transformation Services. However, there are no requirements to be a certifying body, so there are no guarantees of what your coach will have learned. For this reason, coach quality can vary widely. I have taken great care and time to learn all I can about coaching, and to test and refine the way I approach coaching clients. I use time-tested techniques to ensure that you have the best information and encouragement to reach your goals, but I am not a therapist and will always recommend therapy if it is indicated. In fact, I highly recommend doing both coaching and therapy to get the benefits of different approaches and philosophies so that you can find what works for you!

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

Right now, I do still have slots set aside for volunteer coaching for the ADHD community. These are free and, right now, I do not have any session caps.

My coaching rates otherwise are $65/session, with a significant discount for a 6-month program sign-up.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM A COACHING SESSION?

First, we'll talk about your life, your struggles, and your goals. From there, we're going to get you from A to B. You'll tell me about your thoughts, and I'll help you see where your automatic brain is engaging in thought errors that are holding you back. We'll explore ways to think that are more helpful and that make you feel less stressed. Most of us hide or buffer (with food, tv, etc.) when we feel stressed, and so by changing our mindset, we’ll change our actions. You'll decide on the actions you want to take, and I'll hold you accountable as you change your own life.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN A COACH?

Most coaches will have a free consult available where you can get a feel for what working with them will be like. We will listen to your goals and struggles, and give you a picture of how we aim to go from A to B. Some coaches have a spiritual approach, others a worldly one. I myself teach a logic-based way of seeing the world wherein you get to choose how you see everything in your life. It has changed everything for me, and I'm confident it will change everything for my clients, too.

Don't focus too much on the credentials of a coach. Ask yourself if you got some insight and perspective, and if you feel comfortable working with them. You can also ask how they approach coaching and see if it matches with your learning style.

ARE YOU GOING TO JUDGE ME?

No. The foundation of good coaching is neutrality. I have beliefs that I've chosen, consciously, to live by in my life. As soon as we get on the call, however, it's my job to take my values out of the picture and to help you look at your thoughts and your life in a different way. I coach people across the political and religious spectrum, and with all kinds of struggles. I don't ever need to pass judgment on anyone to help them look at their lives in a new light and inspire them to action.

HOW LONG IS YOUR PROGRAM?

I highly recommend committing to coaching for at least 6 months. That, I've discovered, is the smallest amount of time we can take to see real, long-term results that will forever change your life. At 3 months, you'll really start gaining momentum and making huge changes, and at the 6-month mark, you won't even recognize your old thoughts.
